Your website is very nice. I am looking for helpful hints to opening my own karate school. My Sensei will be retired soon. I also need to keep training as I train others, but there are not many Japanese Karate Schools in my area in Michigan. Please feel free to send me any pointers. I am a third degree in Isshin-Ryu Karate. Good luck to you.

Real Shorin Ryu
Thanks for being a Great Instructor!

Thank You Sensei Martin
“I used to be very weak and the people at school made fun of me, but since I started karate I feel I’m getting stronger. It helped train my ears so that Mom doesn’t have to yell to get my attention. My mom goes crazy to find a place to send me like band or Girl Scouts and now she has a safe place she trusts to send me, Karate Incorporated!”

Thank,You Al Martin, Sensei
“Karate helped me by making me stronger and more confident. It makes my hands stronger at basketball, too. It also helps me pay attention at home and school.”

Thanks Al Martin, Sensei
“At home, karate helps me by doing what I am supposed to do. At school it helps me by being a good sport, not getting upset about losing or when someone tries to make me mad. In life it helps me defend myself against physical and emotional attacks.”

Arigato, Al Martin, Sensei
Karate help’s me defend myself at school and out in the world. I can use my martial arts to help my parents by listening to them at first not the second or third time. I can help my parents by helping them with chores

Sensei Martin
“Karate help’s me concentrate on everything I do. It helps me to not get mad at my little brother. It also helps me do my homework from school. Karate helps me pay attention to my parents"

Thank, You! Al Martin
I sure look at Karate and its' history di fferent since I met you! T h ank, You Al Martin, Sensei #6 009

Thank you Sensei Al Martin
I would like to take the time to thank you for all you have done for my son Troy Smith. He has been involved in your karate programs since he was two. He was younger than most when he started but you let him join. He has learned dicipline, self confidence and respect for others and himself. He has self control and is very mature for his age. He is a very good listener and a great kid all the way around. He does karate two times a week and is now a Green Belt. He is part of a group call S.M.A.R.T. Kids which he has earned the right to be part of and he can hardly wait to practice. He is very proud of himself and proud to be part of your organization. If fact the best thing for him is that karate has been a vital part of his growing up. I personally think that if more children got involved in your progams Sensei Al Martin, it would keep them from the bad influences that face our children today. He has made many friends in your classes which I think will be long and lasting impressions. "I would recomend any parent that has the desire to devolop their child with great habits from a young age, get their child involved with Sensei Al Martin and Karate Incorporated. Once again, thank you,the way you have set up the program is very inspiring for anyone who wants to better themselves. Samantha

Serious Karate for Adults Too!
If you take the chance to train with Al Martin you will feel that you are a member of his family and life, which is dedicated in the old style of Okinawa, Shorin Ryu Karate, and to hard, rough training, where it would not be unusual to see a fit Marine or Navy Seal collapse from exhaustion, during class with Martin, Sensei you will be brought to understand the underlying levels of study and learning that many students or so called Masters won’t even know exist. You will see plainly that, the Americans who train in karate and suddenly feel they have developed a new style or system and are therefore entitled to be designated Soke, Master or Shihan are actually missing the point. AL Martin, Sensei clearly observes that these Sensei have simply begun to travel the path of enlightenment, in mis-understanding of what lays within that which there teachers have allowed them to see.

Thanks, Sensei Martin
"I have trained on and off at several different karate schools for the past 13 years, but I’ve spent the last 7 as a proud member of Karate Incorporated. Not only has Karate Incorporated been the most focused school on technical excellence, but it has offered so much more than just a sense of strong martial arts. The environment is instantly comfortable, allowing everyone to open up to each other not only in training, but outside of the karate world as well. Kids are able to talk about problems or concerns with any of the instructors outside of class, seeking advice and guidance from an older mentor and strong positive role model. The camaraderie developed between the students themselves and the instructors is a rare aspect in the normal martial arts chain and is something that I personally retained even into my college years. I return home every chance I get to train at Karate Incorporated and will continue to return to the school that plays such a central role in my life for as long as I’m physically able."

Thank, you Al Martin Sensei
When my daughter Gabrielle began taking karate classes in the fall of 2004, I didn't know what to expect. I thought she would stop like what she did with soccer and dance. However, it was the opposite, she enjoys learning karate and wants to attend the classes. She likes to do activities that require self-control and organization. Gabrielle is a focused and a methodical person. We feel that Karate Incorporated teaches focus, discipline and motivation. Karate has helped build her self- confidence and strength. She made new friends and is happy with the instructors

"In my experience, Karate Incorporated's programs have the unique ability to bring out each child's individual best within the context of a group format. Class formats benefit those who are shy and need confidence building, those who are looking for a new and challenging activity, as well as those who have difficulties with acting out behaviors and require guidance in the areas of self discipline and control. The program offers all participants the opportunity to have fun while experiencing personal success. I am continually impressed with the way Karate Incorporated's instructors identify each child's particular needs/abilities and respond in ways which help individuals achieve their best. And, all this is done through positive reinforcement/re-direction without the need for reprimand or embarrassment."

Karate Incorporated's S.M.A.R.T. Program
"As the principal of an elementary school, I cannot stress how important this program has been and the tremendous impact it has had on the children. Not only has attendance improved for those children involved, but their behavior has improved as they practice self respect and self control. I am confident in stating that any school system would benefit from incorporating this program in their school."

Thanks Again,
I want to send my sincere thanks to you for your self-defense presentation at my regional meeting last month. Your contribution was the highlight of the meeting. Your demonstration was both entertaining and very informative. I would highly recommend your presentation to other businesses that are interested in obtaining a general knowledge of self-defense...

Thanks Martin, Sensei
I enjoy Karate again, because you are one of the best teachers I have met since my family left Okinawa. Thank you, Sensei Martin

Thank you, Karate Incorporated!
Dear Karate Incorporated, I wanted to let you know how much Zack's experience at Karate Incorporated means to all of us. Zack was very sick just 3 years ago. Recovery has been arduous. Zack also has Sensory Integration Disorder, this basically means all his senses work but the information does not get fully interpreted. Zack was weak, clumsy, and uncoordinated to name just a few of the characteristics of SID. Zack went to Occupational Therapy 2x's per day for weeks. He then graduated to once per day, then weekly. Choosing the correct physical activity was worrisome. When I first spoke with someone at Karate Incorporated I didn’t see how Karate could help. My worries were quickly put to ease after a few months lessons. The commitment to a positive physical and personal experience was obvious. Zack so wanted to do Karate. From the first class until today there has been nothing but positive experiences. Zack's self-confidence and his physical abilities have grown tremendously. Your patience while he struggled with something as simple as right vs. left was so appreciated. He has never felt uncoordinated due to Sensei Alton Martin’s teaching methods, this is a bigger statement than most can understand. Another benefit I see for Zack is that he gets to use his energy in a mindful and positive manner that feels fun and rewarding. The experience has been healing for our whole family. It means a lot to see your son's body transform from uncoordinated and weak into strong and thriving. Zack is actually developing muscle! Zack LOVES his private classes with Sensei Alton Martin. He works on his Kata’s, routines, and gets one on one attention from a role model that any mother would appreciate. The other students both young and adult are also very kind. The entire atmosphere at Karate Incorporated is so positive. Thank You so much for all that you do, you make a difference today that changes tomorrow! Sincerely, Debbi Gregory Himes

Thank, You! Sensei Martin
"My daughter, Kayla, is eight years old and has been involved with Karate Incorporated for the last seven months. With a daughter, the teen years can really be scary. If she is involved in the martial arts and she is feeling good about herself I know that she will make it through the teen years. Thank you for such a great program Sensei Martin!" --Karla Sinclair, Fort Myers, Fl.

Thank you, Karate Incorporated.
Ben has more self-confidence, better focus, and a sense of GREAT achievement from reaching goals at Karate Incorporated!” --Heidi Lucelli, Naples, FL.

Thanks, Karate Incorporated
Patrick’s confidence continues to improve; as does his focus. He’s a different kid than he was when he started karate a year ago—happier, more confident, more focused, etc.” --Mrs. Gray,

Thank You! Karate Incorporated
I am pleasantly surprised with Andrew’s enthusiasm towards karate. I have definitely seen a positive change in his attitude. Andrew received two Gold Stars last week and was so very proud of himself. I believe Andrew is very smart and can do anything he sets his mind to. He has a low self-esteem and karate with Sensei Alton Martin is doing leaps and bounds to raise that up! Sky’s the limit!” --Sandy Rice

Karate Incorporated
When I was a child, I remember how much I respected my sports coaches. They encouraged me to never give up when times were tough and they congratulated me when I had the discipline to achieve my goals. My coaches meant the world to me. Every time I tried my best, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride. I contribute my success of today to my former coaches. Karate Incorporated is dedicated to help children become better individuals through Karate. They have created a team of Instructors (coaches) and mentors that focus on helping children achieve their own personal goals both in the classroom at school and in the Karate class

Thanks, My Master!
Al Martin, Sensei I had spent tons of money earning black belts in other Japanese and Okinawan karate styles, but I never found what I was looking for before I was introduced to you! When I think about all the money I wasted on the lies of other so called karate instructors it makes me angry and sick to my stomach. I am glad to say I have found REAL SHORIN RYU KARATE with you! Thank You! Karate Incorporated
Studying martial arts at Karate Incorporated has helped me and my family in so many ways. We're in better physical and mental shape, and my daughter's grades and attitude improved from her first class. the fun of sharing in such an enriching and positive activity together has strengthened our family bonds. And i feel better knowing that my daughter's martial arts training is helping her avoid the dangers kid face today, both through better self-awareness and self- defense. LT.Tim L.Gagne

Karate Incorporated / AL Martin, Sensei
The greatest thing about Karate Incorporated is that it focuses on the whole child. It's not just a great physical workout (which it is) or a good education in self-defense (which it is) or a way to increase strategies for dealing with stranger danger (which it is). But it also encourages children of all ages- within a nonthreatening setting- to strive for personal excellence spiritually and intellectually as well as physically. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Lauren West

Karate Incorporated is # 1
Karate Incorporated takes great care to teach every child. Every class is taught by an adult black belt. This is not a baby sitting karate service. Al Martin,Sensei and the staff at Karate Incorporated make learning positive values and karate fun. My son has found a lifelong friend in AL Martin, Sensei John Urso

Karate Inc. Best for Kid's
Both my son and daughter have benefited from their time at Karate Incorporated: "Yes Mom- starting at age 4. Belt testing "parental forms" are a great way to encourage respect and politeness and complete homework and chores. How to handle Bullies and to never give up are just a few life lessons that my kids have learned over the last 5 years thanks to Sensei Al Martin! Valerie Shook

Karate Incorporated
My son Cameron has attended Karate Incorporated for the last three years. I signed him up to have an activity to do and he was interested. It has really helped his focus and helped him in all areas of life. the fact that they work with the whole child and discuss character education and community service is great and we plan on staying at Karate Incorporated for many more years. Best Karate for real!
"When my life comes to an end and I reflect back upon it, the time I’ve spent with Al Martin, Sensei and all those connected to him in his Traditional Shorin Ryu Karate will be among the most special memories I possess. I would encourage anyone looking for a chance to experience the unique benefits of an authentic martial art form, driven by concepts so profound yet so natural to all of us as living beings, to investigate this school. Athleticism is not a prerequisite. Apart from the obvious self defense aspects of my study, I have learned to recognize the truth in Karate as well as life and in myself much more clearly because of my training. There are few places available to you anywhere in the world where such a journey is possible, Karate Incorporated is one such place." Scott C. Henning, D.M.D. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Meet Al Martin, Sensei for yourself!
"The Traditional and scientific approach Al Martin, Sensei uses in teaching traditional Shorin Ryu Karate to adults has proved to be very effective. Couple this approach with a genuine caring and positive attitude and his S.M.A.R.T. program for children is a recipe for success that has positively changed my dojo in a short period of time. My students and I are extremely grateful; I after failing for nearly ten years thanks to my so called previous Traditional Instructor took the gambit and went to Naples, Florida and began my training under Al Martin, Sensei, after training under Al Martin, Sensei for a year I now have a better understanding of Okinawa Shorin Ryu and I am SUCCESSFUL my (Dojo) school has grown from twenty five students to three hundred and twenty five ." Karl Kissanger Traditional Karate Association America

Seeing is understanding!
I have practiced Okinawa Goju ryu for 25 years. One of the most attractive things about Al Martin, Sensei's Okinawa Shorin Ryu is his unswerving objective to help you understand it's technique from an traditional, intellectual and practical standpoint (I have never met anyone who teaches karate like Al Martin). After all of the years of training, traveling and making lifelong friendships, I sincerely believe that Al Martin Sensei not only has a natural grasp of that objective, but truly understands and articulates the technical core and fundamental nature of traditional karate. As an attorney, training with Al has not only taught me to develop properly for kata and kumite, but to carry that attitude into my profession." Tom Bailey, Esq. The Bailey Law Firm Memphis, TN

Kudo's to Al Martin Sensei
"Each time I have the good fortune to train with Sensei Al Martin, I come away learning and understanding things that I could have never understood before. He has such a wonderful understanding of how bodies move and create action, combined with a deep understanding of the principles of that formed Okinawa's fighting traditions of Shorin ryu Karate and Kobudo. Sensei Al Martin is clearly one of the premier martial arts instructors in the world. He can impart his teaching just as clearly and easily to beginners as to advanced, and even us old birds, with each student feeling as if the class was directed solely at them. If only I lived in Naples Florida, I would be training with him several times a week. As it is, I visit only a few times a year, but each time I feel welcomed as part of his Traditional Shorin ryu Karate family, and I leave energized and looking forward to the next opportunity." Jane M Heath, Ph.D. Designer and Professor, Maryland

Thanks Al Martin, Sensei
"Having been involved with teaching and training in Shotokan for 30 years before training with Al Martin, Sensei and being ready to retire due to injuries, I can say that my association with him has been nothing short of inspiring. He has an amazing Love of Karate and ability to see where you are performing techniques in an injurious manner along with the skill to educate one's mind and body to do it correctly. He has renewed my enthusiasm in training correctly and to pass on those skills to other students. Al Martin, Sensei's background in movement education, and his experience as a karateka, with his openness in passing along what he knows is without parallel." Ron Marques, Sensei Boca Raton, Florida

Thanks, Sensei!
"I started out in Shotokan as a teenager after my mother found out I was boxing at the Boys Club. This was back when ISKF and AAKF were sister organizations under an intact JKA headed by Mr. Nakayama. Unfortunately, college, medical school, internship and residency often interfered with training. But I always found myself heading back to a Shotokan dojo. As it turned out, all were ISKF. Drills were the order of the day. Great aerobic work-outs without any explanations. None whatsoever. I got into a "philosophical argument" with my Sensei (a high ranking teacher from Japan) and quit. As luck would have it, one of my patients and former Sensei invited me to a week-end seminar. He told me a Sensei named Al Martin would be coming up from Florida. I attended and was transformed as a karate student. Not only was Al Martin, Sensei an excellent technician, he was and is a superb analyst of efficient body movement and energy delivery. He explained more at that seminar in forty five minutes than I heard in over 30 years of Shotokan training. I was speechless I had to train with him. I moved my office to Florida Since that day I have enjoyed getting to know his students from around the U.S. and other karate-ka who come to visit Great camaraderie and great training. We know what a true treasure we have in Al Martin, Sensei!" Jeff Mitchell, M.D. Cleaveland Clinic Florida

You should See!
"Al Martin, Sensei has concisely explained the role of posture for movement and execution of karate technique with such clarity that I wished I had started with him ten years ago. Understanding and practicing what he has to teach has taken much longer to realize but that's just the nature of learning karate. My thanks to Sensei Al Martin for so clearly demonstrating and explaining the body mechanics of effective Shorin ryu karate." Lorna T. Stoner, Sensei Former Seibukan Black Belt

Al Martin, Sensei Karate Incorporated
I've been training and teaching Kobayashi Shorin Ryu Karate since 1979. During these years, I've trained with many shorin ryu instructors. In my opinion, Sensei Al Martin is one of the best. One thing which distinguishes him from other martial arts instructors besides his unique lineage of shorin ryu karate is that he's very humble, friendly and open willing to share with out an ego. He physically demonstrates his traditional okinawa shorin ryu karate techniques and then proves their effectiveness in terms of human anatomy performance. I would summarize his teaching method as scientifically-based, fundamental traditional karate techniques." Jim Versaad Dist. Manager Best Buy Inc.
